If you were one of the lucky 10,025 souls inside of Lynn Family Stadium this afternoon, you were there to witness perhaps the moment that many will look back on and say: “This was the moment that the Louisville Kings arrived.” Today felt like a moment that was just different, no matter what the universe tried to throw the Kings way, they were one move ahead, waiting to put the DC Defenders in checkmate. Just one week ago the Defenders were sitting at 5-1, amid a five-game winning streak, and in sole possession of first place in the UFL standings. The Defenders looked a cut above the rest of the UFL and looked like the heavy favorite to hoist the United Bowl trophy in June. Then they met a buzzsaw in the form of the Louisville Kings two straight weeks in a row.
31 Seconds In, Chaos Had Already Completely Taken Over
If you hadn’t made your way back to your seat after the nearly 40-minute weather delay, it might’ve been a shock to sit down and see only 31 seconds come off the clock and the score be 7-7. Life comes at you fast, and so did this football game. Xazavian Valladay returned the opening kickoff 54 yards, putting the Defenders in plus territory immediately. It took Jordan Ta’amu and the Defenders offense one play to strike first. Ta’amu hit Ty Scott down the sideline; Scott quickly shook a Kings defender and green grass was all he saw in front of him as he walked into the end zone giving DC the early lead. Just moments later Tyler Hudson sent Lynn Family Stadium into absolute bedlam when he took the Defenders ensuing kickoff 92 yards to the house, completely untouched.

Louisville Defense Forces Four More Turnovers Against DC
The Defenders have to be seeing ghosts every single time they step out onto the field against the Kings. Last week saw the Kings turn the Defenders over four times, this week the exact same number. Eight turnovers in a week, impressive no matter which way you look at it. Although Jordan Ta’amu left the game early due to injury, the veteran spring quarterback attempted four passes, two of which ended up in the hands of Kings defenders. After eight games, the Kings are leading the UFL in takeaways, now with 15. The Louisville defense is elite, perhaps the best in the entire league.

Tanner Brown Continues to Do Tanner Brown Stuff
Tanner Brown is a weapon. Not often you hear that term used when referencing a kicker, but I’m starting the movement today to officially get him to change his legal name to “Downtown” Tanner Brown. Louisville’s golden leg knocked three more kicks through the uprights today, one of which was the franchise’s first ever four-point field goal. Add that to the list of insanity Kings fans had the pleasure of witnessing today. After the impressive season the young kicker has put together, I would not at all be shocked if Brown ends up on an NFL roster this fall.

The Kings Have Found Their Footing at the Right Time
The Kings inaugural season looked like it was doomed from the start. After three games the new team found themselves at the bottom of the standings… and winless. A few personnel changes and finally a few lucky bounces the Kings way have them winning four of their last five, and right in the thick of the playoff hunt. This league is a meat grinder, and while “any given Sunday” may not be the right adage here, the sentiment still rings true. The Kings will need to keep their foot on the gas in the final two games of the season. A dangerous Dallas Renegades team rolls into Louisville next Sunday, followed by the season finale in Columbus against the Aviators the following Sunday. Going 2-0 in the final two games keeps the Kings destiny in their own hands and likely puts them into the UFL playoffs.
